Sharee want to phone her family overseas. She has a sister who lives in the USA and her mother lives in India. She looks at different phone cards in the shop but is very confused.

Sharee sees one phone card which says it costs $10 and she can talk for 100 minutes. The salesperson says it is a good choice.

She thinks I can ring my sister and talk for 40 minutes and I can then ring my mother and talk for 60 minutes. 60 minutes mother 40 minutes Sister

Sharee rings her sister in the USA. After 10 minutes the phone call is cut off.

She tries to ring her mother but is told there is no money left on the card.

Sharee is very angry. She goes back to the store where she bought the card but the salesperson says he cannot do anything about it.

What can Sharee do? Each phone card has a different rate for different countries. Sharee can buy one card to call her mother, and another one to call her sister. Sharee can make a complaint to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman. She can go to a Community Legal Centre and ask them to help her.
