Precepting in the Patient's Presence (PIPP) Encounter time by 2 minutes Pt face time by 3 minutes Pt perception 6 more minutes w/ them Vs Conference Room Staffing Thoughtful article/ RCT of 209 encounters by David Power documenting the benefits of students or residents presenting in the patient room. I have enjoyed doing this with my students and resident. Also helpful with time-based billing since you are spending more time face-to-face with the patient. Daniel Stulberg, M.D. The studies show good patient comfort with having learners present to faculty in the patient room and a preference for PIPP in the future. Learner perceptions were positive and faculty preferred PIPP for teaching, learning, patient care and time efficiency. The current study included a patient population with a high percentage of Medicaid patients, low health literacy and high rates of needing an interpreter.

Have you met Casper? Casper is my “Ghost patient”. Sharing note templates in Powerchart is not so easy, so we have placed some note templates in Casper’s chart so that we can share them. Search Casper Ghost and check out some of the notes people place there to share, like this one for Medicare “Face to face” Oxygen certification. Daniel Stulberg, MD
