Mutual Respect Remembrance

This is the most important part

Pictures: Lots of countries were suspicious of each other and tensions grew (as this contemporary cartoon shows) Sides ganged up (as you can see on the map) - all it was going to take was a relatively small act to break the peace and war would start…... The ‘small act’ was the assassination, of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, whist he was visiting Sarajevo - war was now inevitable. Could it have been stopped? Let’s hang on to that question (arrow on map) An awful and more violent war than ever before broke out - most of it took place in Belgium (arrow) which was not even on any of the sides in the war - it was neutral

Pictures: Eventually, after a dreadful four year war with many casualties, the German alliance surrendered. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the war was officially over The war claimed more lives than any before it - people said that it must NEVER happen again. Many poems and other works of art appeared as a result - this is the most famous

75 million people Pictures:
The winning countries blamed Germany for the war (was that fair?) and wanted to make it suffer - so they made them pay for ALL war losses - understandably, the German people were not happy….. This is one of the reasons that Adolf Hitler was able to come to power in How could this have been stopped? After seven years - with appalling loss of life and injury - WW2 came to an end It’s estimated that about 75 million people lost their lives in both world wars. How could this have been stopped? That’s why we remember those who died in these and all other battles on Remembrance Sunday - it’s important It wasn’t over, however. Following the war, the world divided itself, broadly, into two bodies again. Other countries were ganging-up again, too. One led by the USA, the other by the USSR. WW3 was very likely……...

How might WW1 and WW2 been prevented?
MUTUAL RESPECT Pictures: The key to stopping WW3 was reflecting on what could have stopped WW1 and WW2 - what do you think could have stopped WW1 and WW2? This time, however, the leaders of the USA (Ronald Reagan) and the USSR (Mikhail Gorbachev), with big teams from their countries, sat down and talked - this guaranteed peace (but not forever) This and many other peaceful resolutions to conflict shows that talking to others, giving them respect and, consequently, them giving you respect (mutual respect) is always the best way to prevent conflict. Understanding, respecting and even just talking to people with different beliefs or views to you is the BEST way to understand the complex world we live in and to keeping it peaceful

What will you do to ensure that you talk to each other to prevent arguments or worse?
