Bellwork Tuesday 10/25/16 Complete Apostrophe Use Worksheet #3. Remember: Apostrophes are only used to (1) show possession and (2) create contractions (join words). Possessive adjectives (his, hers, theirs, ours, yours) do not contain apostrophes. For its vs. it’s, use the it is test. If you could say “it is,” then you need an apostrophe. Put the apostrophe before the s if the word is singular and after the s if the word is plural. Possessive nouns must always be followed by an adjective or a noun.
