During the start of 2015 a number of articles from various sources were reviewed and the most pertinent to the Environmental and Waste Management Group are included in the following slides.

Feb – Vegetation Management Conference
Control of Invasive Non Native Species (INNS) legislation is to be updated and enforced in England and Wales (legislation is already in place in Scotland)
Landowners, undertakers and managers (potential to include leaseholders) must take positive steps to prevent the spread of INNS to neighbours property. Failure to manage INNS will result in enforcement of control and eradication orders from the regulators
This would apply to particularly aggressive species such as Japanese Knotweed but will not be limited to these species alone. Please see links to guidance and legislation in following slide.

Joint IEMA Event, Noise Impacts
March – Dr. Stephen Thomson, Phd, MIEMA, Head of Environment & Sustainability Branch, MTRIPS Directorate, Transport Scotland provided an update on the current status of the Scottish Noise Mapping on-line resource and development of Candidate Noise Management Areas (CNMAs), which are categorised due to existing high impacts from transport noise.
Brian Beck, Environment Manager, Network Rail Infrastructure Projects, Scotland & NE discussed the application of Best Practicable Means (BPM) / Best Available Techniques (BAT) to minimise noise in a construction environment in a Built Up Area.
