Probability Learning Objectives: ~ To discuss how likely events are to happen. ~ To use mathematical vocabulary to describe the probability of events happening.
2
What is probability? How likely is something going to happen? What are the chances of an event happening?
3
Mathematical Vocabulary We use the following words to describe the likelihood or chance of something happening: IMPOSSIBLE (It will never happen!!) UNLIKELY (It may happen but probably won t) LIKELY (It may happen and probably will) CERTAIN (It will definitely happen)
4
How likely are these events to happen? You will go to a comprehensive school in September. You will drink something today. You will see the Queen on your way home.
5
Task: You will be given some cards with events on them. You have to sort the cards into 4 groups. The chances of the events happening could be impossible, unlikely, likely or certain. Work with your group to decide which event is which!!
