2 Objectives SWBAT create a mini-lesson on a given section in the text
SWBAT to relate real-life examples of forces to the information in the book

3 Requirements Make a group with no more than 4 students. Read the assigned section, and be ready to present to the class tomorrow and Monday. Pick the person with the BEST handwriting and the person who is the BEST artist. They will be the scribes for your group. You will work together to teach the class about your section.

4 More Requirements Define all BOLD definitions provided in your section and include in your notes that you will present to the class Include all Key Concepts in your notes to present to the class Explain what your section means to you. After you explain, ask the class to come up with examples of your section. Choose the most relevant example and draw it in your notes that you present to the class.

8 Review Newton’s First Law of Motion
An object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion will stay in motion at constant speed, unless acted upon by an external (unbalanced) force. Inertia: the resistance an object has to a change in its state of motion. Objects keep on doing what they’re doing…

9 Newton’s Second Law of Motion
(Law of Acceleration) F=ma

10 Newton’s 2nd Law (Law of Acceleration) F=m x a
Force = mass x acceleration An Unbalanced Force acting on an object causes it to Accelerate

11 F=ma Rules Force- you must have (N) for your answer
mass- you must have (kg) for your answer acceleration- you must have m/s^2 for your answer Points will be taken off if you forget.

12 2nd Law F=ma is the net force of an object equal to the product of its mass and acceleration. Example: A little boy pushes a wagon with his dog in it. The mass of the dog and wagon together is 45kg. The wagon accelerates at 0.85 m/s2. What force is the boy pulling with? F=(45kg)(0.85 m/s2) What is the Force?? N

Momentum- a measure of how hard it is to STOP something that is moving Momentum (M) = mass (kg) x velocity (m/s) **MOMENTUM IS ALWAYS CONSERVED

17 Normal Force The fancy name for the force that acts PERPENDICULAR to an object Normal force from a table Normal force from a wall

19 Centripetal Force Centripetal Force – the force that keeps objects moving in a circle. Ex. Could be friction from the wheels of a car, the tension in a string, the normal force from a wall holding you in place
