4 OBJECTIVES Outline the main features of the section with which you are working demonstrate the main ceremonies used in the section explain the roles and responsibilities that different people undertake during a section meeting detail various sources of ‘ready made’ programme ideas

explain why different types of games and activities are an important part of the programme outline the important criteria for games and activities in scouting introduce (and run) a game or activity to their section

6 TOOLS FOR THE JOB

7 Introduction to the section and programme planning

8 KEY OBJECTIVES describe the main feature of your section, including the age range, theme, groupings and the decision-making and programme planning processes. Demonstrate the ceremonies that may be used in your section (opening, closing, investiture, badge presentation, moving in / moving on and so on ).

10 TASK Prepare a five minute presentation for the rest of the group describing your section to a non-scouting audience.

Groupings of young people within the section Decision - making within the section The methods, underlying ways of working and programme zones for the section the sections programme planning processes.

12 TASK prepare a role play of one of your section’s ceremonies

15 Key objectives Explain the roles and responsibilities that different people undertake during a section meeting.

16 TASK In pairs, and using handout A, match up the abbreviations and descriptions with the name of the roles written in full. 10 minutes

17 TASK Brainstorm the responsibilities of the roles outlined, and the kind of tasks for which they may be responsible. Report back
