Step Back 5 x 5 is a tool which when applied by you in the work place, will help you recognize hazards that you may be exposed to in the work place or at home.

A simple and effective tool the Step Back 5 x 5 card only needs you to invest a few minutes of your time prior to starting any job, to look for hazards that may pose a risk to you or your workmates.

You should use the Step Back 5 x5 observation method if the job you are doing that does not involve high risk activities and is a part of your normal work scope.
If during the Step back 5 x 5 observation it becomes clear there is a high risk hazard a JHA should be considered.
