4 Crime Facts and Figures
In Britain, every time the police catch a criminal the crime is recorded in the British Crime Survey (BCS). This includes the numbers of murders every year, and also less serious offences like shoplifting. Over the coming slides you will see a series of figures blanked out. In your groups you should guess the % or exact figure. Write down in one persons jotter and keep quiet, prizes to be won!!

THE POLICE? THE GOVERNMENT? SOCIETY? RELIGIOUS GROUPS? YOUR FAMILY? THE MEDIA? Discuss, which group do you believe should decide on what a crime is? Why?

11 Ultimately it is the Government who decide what is a crime or not.
Democracy means we can take part in the law making process. Vote for parties who will pass laws that affect us e.g. fox hunting, smoking ban.
