1 Sub 1 GHz license-exempt operation
Month Year doc.: IEEE yy/xxxxr0 January 2010 Sub 1 GHz license-exempt operation Date: Authors: David Halasz, Aclara John Doe, Some Company

2 Month Year doc.: IEEE yy/xxxxr0 January 2010 Abstract IEEE currently doesn’t standardize usage of sub 1 GHz operation, such as the 900 MHz ISM band. While these bands are limited, they are attractive for outdoor usage. David Halasz, Aclara John Doe, Some Company

3 January 2010 Sub 1 GHz and IEEE Current IEEE standard does not cover below 1 GHz, such as the MHz ISM band. This band does have an advantage over 2.4 GHz, 3.65 GHz and 5 GHz because of range per transmit power. Better free space propagation loss Better clutter propagation loss. i.e. trees, telephone poles Increase in battery life A disadvantage is the limited bandwidth. However sufficient for 5, 10 and 20 MHz OFDM Down to 1.25 MHz wide channel also useful Smaller channels also allow for bandwidth sharing David Halasz, Aclara

4 SmartGrid has a large outdoor component
January 2010 SmartGrid has a large outdoor component Use IEEE ! Select band and channel width to meet the usage needs. David Halasz, Aclara

5 Use existing IEEE 802.11 PHY for quick solutions
January 2010 Use existing IEEE PHY for quick solutions Solutions today with added down converter. Possible future solutions similar to dual mode .11a/.11g WLAN cards. David Halasz, Aclara

6 Standardization effort
January 2010 Standardization effort Standardization effort should be similar to IEEE y. IEEE y PAR approved 3/16/2006 REVCOM Standards Board Approval 9/26/2008 Efforts within IEEE j, .11k, .11y and current .11m will make this effort easier provided not a new PHY. Channelization Annex I, J of Channel width down to 1.25 MHz Clause 17, 20 David Halasz, Aclara

7 January 2010 PAR & 5 criteria Draft for PAR and 5 criteria in document wng-900mhz-par-and-5c.docx David Halasz, Aclara

8 January 2010 Motion from 08/762r5 Believing that the PAR and Five Criteria contained in the documents referenced below meet IEEE-SA guidelines, Request that the PAR contained in 10/0001r04 and the Five Criteria contained in 10/0001r04 be posted to the IEEE 802 Executive Committee (EC) agenda for WG 802 preview and EC approval to submit to NesCom. [Moved by <name> on behalf of <group> <group> vote: Moved: <name>, Seconded: <name>, Result: y-n-a] David Halasz, Aclara
