Union troops/miners blow up section of Rebel defenses. How could this go wrong???? Yep, It did.

5 Battle of Mobile Bay August 5, 1864
Adm. David Farragut, Union Navy. Defeats CSA fleet, then forces surrender of both defensive forts.

6 Confederate Army of the Tennessee

7 Battle of Franklin, TN November 30, 1864
CSA: Gen. John B. Hood 27,000 men Union: Gen. John Schofield Hood orders 20,000 man assault. “Pickett’s Charge of the West” Confederates decimated and routed.

CSA: Gen. John B. Hood 30,000 men Union: Gen. George Thomas 55,000 men Union assaults push Rebels from the field. Hood retreats, and resigns command.
