Jackson had the biggest popular vote House of Representatives decides Henry Clay (speaker of the house) took Adams side and became his Secretary of State Jackson is angered

Jackson toured the country drumming up support. (Campaigning) 1st time

6 Changes in voting/who could vote?
States began to pay more attention to the popular vote. States got rid of the property requirement to vote, increase the electorate. The number of voters more than doubled. Democracy was still limited to white men.

9 The Election of 1828 Jackson ran as a Democrat, and a “common man”
He won with 2/3 of the electoral vote Less aristocracy, more down to earth, true in the inauguration crowd.

10 A new party structure/spoils system
Jackson developed a disciplined system to run a campaign. Public rallies, appeal to voters Spoils System- reward your supporters with government jobs.
