Relationship to East-West Winds
The bow-like feature is fixed relative to Venus’ mountains. It is a mountain, or gravity wave. The Feature persists even though it is immersed in 50 m/s winds!

What We Are Going To Do Calculate east-west wind velocities as a function of latitude for as many contiguous nights as we can. Where observing runs are separated by only 2 months, extrapolate results to look for 7-10 day periodicity This will involve: Select images Clean up images (remove slit, defects) Co-register images Subtract scattered sunlight (Br-gamma images) Transform to cylindrical coordinates Measure motion of 9 x,y points per image Calculate east-west winds as a function of latitude Make Science on a Sphere movies
