1 Mr. Ison’s Classroom Policies
2016 – 2017 Academic Year

2 Food and Drinks Food is to be consumed outside of the classroom.
Students that are late due to consuming food outside the classroom will be marked as tardy. Drinks are permitted, for the time being, as long as they have a lid. Failure to clean up your mess, in the case of a spill, will result in drink privileges being revoked for the ENTIRE CLASS. Trash goes in the trashcan. REMINDER: Duval County Public Schools prohibits food or drinks in science laboratory settings due to the chemical and biological nature of experiments.

3 Dress Code You are required to follow the dress code.
Administration is the final judge to whether an item of clothing is considered appropriate. A note will be required from an administrator with the student’s name, current date, note specifying the specific article of clothing is appropriate or remedied, and approval to be permitted to return to class if a student is referred by the instructor. Closed toe shoes must be worn in the lab during lab days. Hats are to remain at home. Administration has stated that hats brought on campus will be confiscated. IDs are for your safety and required to be carried at all time. REMINDER: The temperature is set and regulated by DCPS, dress accordingly.

4 Beginning of Class Book bags will be left in your locker or at home. Small purses are permitted. Enter the classroom quietly. Horseplay will be left in the hallway. Check the board and screen for a warm-up assignment. If a warm-up exercise or quiz is available, begin working quietly. If warm-up is missing, sit quietly until directed by the instructor on what procedures you need to follow. Have all supplies ready to use, that means paper, writing utensils and books on your desk ready to use (includes sharpening of pencils). REMINDER: When the tardy bell rings you are on my time!

5 Tardy Policy You are considered “on time” if your ENTIRE body is through the threshold of the door when the late bell rings. Any student hanging out in the doorway or hindering another students entry into the class may be considered late. The school tardy policy will be followed to its fullest. REMINDER: The instructor deems whether you are tardy.

6 Seating Assignments Classroom seating is assigned by the instructor.
Desks are arranged how the instructor wants them and may be moved ONLY with permission given by the instructor. Students may be asked to move at anytime and are expected to move with a positive attitude and in a timely fashion. REMINDER: There are others who share the class space, and respect for peers and property is expected.

7 Cell Phones & Other Electronics
Any visible cell phone, electronic devices, etc., regardless of whether it is in use, are prohibited. Electronic devices are to be put up in your cars, lockers, etc. and remain out of site throughout the school day. Use of electronic devices may be permitted by the instructor on case-by-case basis, during designated activities. REMINDER: Duval County School Board policy states that cell phones must be set to the “off position” and “out of sight” during school hours.

8 Explicit Instruction (C) = Conversation should be limited to instructor-student interaction. Check points are worked into the lessons. (H) = Write down questions on your notes and ask during check points. (A) = The instructor is instructing. (M) = Movement should be limited to seats to prevent distractions from the lesson. (P) = Students should be actively taking notes to supplement those provided by the instructor, and providing feedback and asking questions relevant to the lesson at check points.

9 Guided Practice (C) = Conversation should be limited to a 20-inch voice between individuals within the group. (H) = Students needing help should seek help from their group. If further help is needed, one member of the group should raise their hand to acquire assistance from the instructor. (A) = Group work, labs, and group activities. (M) = Movement should be limited to sharpening pencils or acquiring needed supplies required for the activity as designated by the instructor. (P) = Students should be working with their group to solve problems provided by the instructor.

10 Independent Practice (C) = Conversation should be limited.
(H) = When help is needed, ask your table mate to help explain the concept prior to asking the instructor for assistance. Remember, sharing of answers will be considered cheating. If further help is needed, raise your hand to get assistance from the instructor. (A) = Assignments (M) = Movement is permissible to sharpen pencils. (P) = Students should be working independently and quietly on the assignment provided for by the instructor.

11 Hall Passes Students need to use the restrooms before and after class.
Hall passes are only given during the middle 30 minutes of class – provided explicit instruction has been completed – if an emergency is deemed by the instructor. Students must have an ID badge to use a Hall Pass and are limited to two a quarter. Lunch students are to utilize facilities during lunchtime to avoid needing them during the lunch period. Counselors and offices have specifically stated to send students ONLY if they have a pass from their office. REMINDER: Hall Passes are a privilege and ONLY FOR EMERGENCIES.

12 Fire Drills The class will be dismissed by the instructor.
Leave books in the classroom. Ladies, please take your purses. Maintain order and leave in a quick fashion when you are dismissed. Report to the assigned area and stay until time to return to the building. REMINDER: Fire Drills are serious in nature, failure to take it seriously or follow directions will result in consequences!

13 PA Expectations When the announcements come on please stop what you are doing and listen. There may be something important that you, your peers, or the instructor may need to hear. REMINDER: PA Announcements are typically important, hence why the administration feels that class should be interrupted for you to hear them!

14 Class Dismissal The bell is to inform you of when class is scheduled to end, but the instructor dismisses the class. For safety reasons, students should remain seated at their desks until dismissed by the instructor. Upon exiting the classroom throw all trash in the trash bin and be sure all work that is due is turned in to the proper bin. Borrowed books should be returned to their proper location after the dismissal bell has rang and the instructor dismisses the class. REMINDER: The instructor dismisses the class!
