2 Past Simple Structure Structures Was / Were Regular verbs
Irregular verbs Affirmative I was very busy. They were at the park at this moment yesterday. Karen graduated in 2004. We visited Mexico last month. Mark drove his car from Miami to Orlando. We ate the chocolate cake. Negative She wasn’t there. We were not in the city. He didn´t play soccer. Max and Mary did not study for their test. Students didn’t come to class. Martha didn’t swim in the river. Interrogative Was he there? Were you at the party? Did you cook pasta last night? Did the dog bark last night? What did you learn in university? When did you buy your laptop?

3 Uses To talk about finished actions in the past:
1. An action after another. She opened the door, turned on the light and entered the house. 2. An action that happened in a certain situation. The car knocked the child down when he was crossing the road. 3. A short action finished in the past. Yesterday, i arrived at home too late. 4. A finished action that takes a long period of time. I lived in Britain when i was young.

4 Past Continuous We were having fun. Mark was singing when you called.
Affirmative Negative Interrogative We were having fun. Mark was singing when you called. They were not watching the movie at that moment. She wasn’t talking to him. Where were you going when i saw you? Was she trying to call you? -

5 Uses 1. To talk about an action in progress in the past or a temporary situation in the past At midday last Sunday, i was working with my laptop. In 1998, I was living with my cousin. 2. To express the action in progress in which another action happened. I was talking on the phone when my mom called me. 3. Two actions that were taking place at the same time. My mom was cooking while I was doing my homework.

6 Past Perfect Simple Structure She had studied the language.
Affirmative Negative Interrogative She had studied the language. I had practiced a lot before the contest. I hadn’t seen you for a long time. We hadn’t experienced such feelings. Had you watched that movie before? Had you spoken in public?

7 Use - My family had already arrived before i left.
To express a finished action that took place before another completed action in the past - My family had already arrived before i left. - After we had finished dinner, we got ready to go out.
