1 Eddie Grant Aliesha Bridgelal

2 WHO IS EDDY GRANT? Eddy Grant is a Guyanese-British vocalist and musician who stands among an elite group of artists such as Drev Gordon and Lincoln Gordon. Grant has not only been at the forefront of genres but has even created his own. From being a pop star to a reggae radical, musical entrepreneur to inventing the genre of ringbang Grant has passed through the music industry making changes and making it his own.

3 WHO IS EDDY GRANT? He grew up on the ‘sound of his homeland’ which was tan singing, an Indo-Caribbean vocal style whose roots laid in South Asia and is the backbone for modern chutney. In 1960 the Grant family migrated to England and lived in the Stoke Newington area in London. As a teen Eddy’s musical horizons expanded swifty and he embraced the R&B, Blues and Rock that filtered across his homeland.

4 WHO IS EDDY GRANT? In 1965, Grant formed his first band, The Equals, which was the first multi-racial band to receive any recognition. They performed at the club and pub circuit and finally got a label deal with President Records in early 1967. In 1970, he started up his own specialty record label, Torpedo, concentrating on British reggae artists. On January 1st 1971 Grant suffered a heart attack and a collapsed lung and as a result quit his own band. Grant continued to produce other artists and release their records through his newly launched Ice label, but his own musical talents were seemingly left behind. It wasn't until when Grant finally released a record of his own, the Message Man album.

Message Man His influence in the music industry Producing, producing and performing – Grant produced and promoted local aritists includinf David Rudder and Mighty Gabby. Grant also was a songwrite for artists including The Pyramids aka The Bees Starting up a speciality recording studio in 1970 which concentrated on British reggae artists. He later sold this business and opened up his own in which he called The Coach House

A song called ‘Hello Africa’ which featured a sound the media did not even invent a word for yet. Grant called it Kaisoul (An amalgamation of Kaiso and Soul) which is now called soca since the name did not stick. Mentoring a new generation of soca talent Opening yet another studio named Blue Wave Publishing music and specializing in Calypso Legends including Lord Kitchener and The Mighty Sparrow The creation of Ringbang in Grant said “What ringbang seeks to do is envelop all the rhymes that originated from Africa so it can become one, defying all geographical boundries.
