2. LOCOMOTIVE
Stephenson invented the locomotive, which he called “The Bluther”. The locomotive is an engine that pulls a train. It was invented in It was the very first successful flanged- wheel adhesion. It had a large affect during the Industrial Revolution.

3. POSITIVE IMPACT ON SOCIETY
It transformed small communities into big cities.
It increased the amount of jobs therefore bringing more people into the city.
It boosted production of natural resources.
People were able to travel at a faster rate.
People worked for the hour and were paid for the hour.
Since many products became cheaper, people had more money to go on vacation.

4. NEGATIVE IMPACT ON SOCIETY
As people were able to move to cities, travel faster, and find more jobs child labor became rampant.
The children worked really hard and had little time for school.
Neighborhoods would become dirty and crowded.

5. POSITIVE IMPACT ON ECONOMY
It transported machines and supplies.
It got workers from one part of the country to another.
It was a faster way of transportation.
By 1851 it doubled London’s population.

6. NEGATIVE IMPACT ON ECONOMY
The combustion of wood and coal and steam engines produces carbon dioxide which caused the air to be polluted.
It polluted rivers and smoke began to fill the air which dominated cities and led to poor living and working conditions.
The locomotive produced diesel exhaust which contained thousands of harmful contaminants
