All experiments must be assigned.
Experiments must be supervised.
No eating or drinking in lab.
Always keep work area clean.

6. Heating and Fire Safety
Goggles (candle, hot plate and burner)
Must have permission to heat anything. Combustible items need to be kept away.
Don’t reach across flame.
Know proper procedures for heating.
Test tube needs to be pointing away
Never heat liquid in a closed container
Use an oven mitt or to pick up containers

7. Using Chemicals Safely
Don’t mix for fun
Don’t use senses to test unless authorized
Use only the chemicals in the lab.
Dispose as instructed (not sink, or trash)
Pour over container or sink
Pour acid into water first
Be careful not to spill

8. Using Glassware safely
Don’t force tubing into a rubber stopper
Use wire screen to protect glassware from flame
Cool glassware can be hot (mitt)
Must not be chipped or broken

9. Using Sharp instruments
Use scalpels or sharp instruments, away from you.
Notify teacher at once if you’re cut

10. Animal and Plant Safety
No labs causing pain or discomfort
Never handle animals unless instructed
If you are allergic let teacher know
Cover entire body when doing field work
Don’t eat unidentified plants
Always wash hands

11. End-of-Experiment
Clean up work area
Dispose of waste as instructed
Wash your hands
Turn, unplug, and put away all equipment
