Wanted European countries to recognize the CSA

Blockade Southern Ports-
Cut off the South’s supply of manufactured goods by stopping their trade with Europe
2. Gain Control of the Mississippi River-
Keep the South from using the river to transport troops & supplies
Divide the CSA into 2 parts (divide & conquer)
Capture the Confederate Capital Richmond, Virginia -
Headquarters of the Confederate govt.
