3 Sophomore Year Building on skills from English 1:
Literary analysis: in reading & writing Research Connections between fiction & nonfiction Critical thinking & intelligent discussions, often in small groups Echoes and Reflections curriculum and Night Antigone More responsibility & autonomy expected

4 Parent Portal Allows you/your student to see real-time grades in each class; grades for each assignment Please check this prior to making inquiries about grades Set up your student’s account at parents.luhsd.net Your student will need to get their Verification Code from their SLC in order to set up their account. Red box means assignment was not turned in.

5 Other Helpful Items Remind - only for occasional notices to students.  Not for daily homework notices. One way communication. Turnitin.com. students must use website to submit many assignments and for peer editing. *school library 7:30-4, including lunch* *HELP Center in Room C-111 until 4:45 Monday through Thursday.* Make use of my teacher website, please Due dates, daily agenda, PPTs and handouts are there.  *does not replace planner and/or student responsibility.

6 Notable Policies 4 One day late passes and then No late homework is accepted Work that is not turned in will show up as MISSING – a red blank box. Absent work is accepted, but it’s the responsibility of your student to find out what they missed and how to make it up. Tests that were given on a day your student was absent must be made up within one calendar week of the original date; then scores will convert to 0.

7 What do your students need?
They need to be given responsibility and accountability Let them take the consequences for their actions If they are struggling or are having any issues relating to the class, send them to me to discuss it Time management is crucial Do you know how to help with Patriot Plus? minutes or one hour, depending on the week.  Sign up in advance, use the sessions!  Ask your student about the PP class they signed up for each week.

They still need parents Check in with them about homework Check my teacher webpage for information about assignments & due dates If they have made a mistake, do not let them blame anyone other than themselves We all need to be on the same page
