Milestones on the Road to Stockholm 1989 The Road to Aåhus and Stockholm Canada (DIAND) places POPs on the agenda of the UN - ECE LRTAP Convention 1991 NCP & AMAP established 1991 - 1994 Canada (DIAND) & Sweden chair UN LRTAP Task Force to justify need for international action 1994 UN - ECE LRTAP Task Force State ok Knowledge Reports are accepted 1995 - 1997 Canada (DIAND) chairs UN LRTAP Working Group to prepare POPs protocol & LRTAP Convention 1997 CACAR & AMAP Assessment reports 1998 released under 1995 Iceland takes LRTAP State of Knowledge Report to UNEP Governing Council: A global assessment is initiated DIAND chair LRTAP POPs protocol is signed Global negotiations under UNEP take place and are conclude in Johannesburg 2001 Stockholm: Signing of Global POPs Agreement
