1 Anatomy-Skeletal System
Skull

2 Anatomy-Skeletal System Introduction
Think back to your first introduction to the bones of the body. On the diagram provided name the bones that you know. As we progress through today’s lesson and label the bones, if the bones is one that you labeled correctly on your diagram, place a check mark next to the bone.

3 Anatomy-Skeletal System Objectives
Students will be able to: Define anatomical terms. Identify the bones of the skull. Label the bones.

4 Anatomy-Skeletal System Terminology
Provides the shape and form for supporting, protecting, movement, blood cell production and mineral storage. Skull Bony framework of the head. The bones that make up the cranium and face.

5 Anatomy-Skeletal System Skull
Cranium Frontal Protects the frontal lobe, eyes Amphiarthrosis!

6 Anatomy-Skeletal System Skull
Cranium Temporal Protects the temporal lobe, inner ear Softest cranial bone

7 Anatomy-Skeletal System Skull
Cranium Parietal Protects the parietal lobe Forms the posterior roof

8 Anatomy-Skeletal System Skull
Cranium Occipital Protects the occipital lobe, brain stem, superior spinal cord

9 Anatomy-Skeletal System Skull
Cranium Sphenoid More protection for the temporal lobe & inferior brain structures Extends below the brain to form a bowl

10 Anatomy-Skeletal System Skull
Face Orbital Forms the eye socket Joined with ethmoid, lacrimal, & sphenoid bones

11 Anatomy-Skeletal System Skull
Face Nasal Protects nasal passages Gives shape to the bridge of the nose Breaks easily!

12 Anatomy-Skeletal System Skull
Face Zygoma & Zygomatic Arch Cheekbones Forms inferior border of the eye socket

13 Anatomy-Skeletal System Skull
Face Maxilla Creates upper jaw & holds teeth Part of the zygomatic arch

14 Anatomy-Skeletal System Skull
Face Mandible Hinge joint allows for protraction & retraction Movement allows for speech MASTICATION Holds lower teeth
