2 Recap: ‘Kaipara Walking and Cycling Strategy’ adopted at August 2017 Council meeting Vision ‘working together to enhance walking and cycling in Kaipara’ Focus on local journeys as well as longer distance touring routes to support economic growth Identified opportunities for collaboration to jointly fund and connect key linkages, maximising the investment for Council

3 Key District Projects:
Ensures Council’s focus is on projects with clear local and regional strategic alignment Leveraging off existing routes and projects already gaining momentum

5 Dargaville to Donnellys Crossing Rail Trail:
36km off road cycle trail via old Kaihu Valley Railway line Potential to partner with Iwi and community groups Will complement the existing Heartland Rides by creating a trail that could cater to a broader set of visitors and local residents Need for wrap around services and facilities to support trail that could facilitate economic growth Waoku Coach Road connection could be considered a future extension 2017/2018 Actions: Gain feasibility study Application to Northland Regional Council’s Investment and Growth Reserve to fund an economic impact assessment Business case assessment presented to Council June 2018

6 Draft Long Term Plan 2018/2028: $60,000 per year for the first 3 years of the LTP to contribute towards implementing this strategy Council to seek opportunities to use local share to leverage external funds and subsidies to maximise available budget Projects include, Rail Trail, improvements to Kaipara Missing Link Heartland Ride, potential Eastern Coast Heartland Ride, and Matakohe Bridges Shared Path Other projects from strategy funded elsewhere through different Council budget lines e.g. Mangawhai Community Plan
