1. Conversions Between Units
Sometimes you need to switch from one unit to a smaller or larger unit to keep the numbers manageable.
Sometimes quantities are measured using different units, and need to be changed for comparison.

2. Steps for conversion of units.
1. Identify the value’s known units and the desired units.
2. Write the equality between the two units (known and desired).
3. Write the 2 possible conversion factors which can be made from that equality.
4. Solve the problem by:
a. Writing the given
b. Multiplying by the appropriate conversion factor, which has the
known units in the denominator (bottom of the fraction) and the
desired units in the numerator.
c. Check your answer for the appropriate desired units.

3. Equalities 1m = 100 cm 1m = 1000 mm 1km = 1000 m 1cm = 10 mm
1m = 10 dm
1m = 100 cm
1m = 1000 mm
1km = 1000 m
1cm = 10 mm
1dm = 10 cm
