The Rural Transportation Planning Program was created to aid the State in addressing the transportation needs of non-metropolitan areas Administered by the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization (HRTPO) Rural Areas in Hampton Roads: Gloucester County Southampton County Surry County City of Franklin 2

3 Background – Fiscal Year 2017 Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP)
Development of an Active Transportation Plan for Southampton County using HRTPO’s Rural Transportation Planning funds The plan will analyze existing conditions and make recommendations for bicycle and pedestrian projects around the county Project will be completed in phases: Phase I – Data Collection (Fiscal Year 2017) Phase II – Report/Recommendations (Fiscal Year 2018) 3

4 Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan: Franklin and Isle of Wight

5 Steering Committee Recommendation from Southampton County Board of Supervisors Group made up of Planning Commission members and citizens who will provide guidance and assist staff during the development of the Plan 5
