Growth mindset activities
We’re going to take a true or false psychology quiz, so on the back of your name plate write the numbers 1-15

2. Today’s Objectives
You will acquire the knowledge necessary to present a growth mindset by engaging in whole class discussion, turn-and-talk, group work, and writing to learn
You will create goals for the first benchmark –Nov. 11th-- based on last year’s EOC scores

3. Digital Agreement
Ms. Schelstrate believes there is value in students using personal technology in the classroom for academic purposes. With the allowance of electronic devices such as: cellphones, iPod, iPad, tablets, notepads, and laptops, there are certain considerations and restrictions. Any use of technology that degrades the learning environment, promotes dishonesty or is used for illegal activities will be prohibited. Devices can be disruptive in the classroom in several ways, and their use should not be abused.
 Ringtones must be turned off in class, and if on, phones must be in vibrate mode.
 Per school policy, phone calls should NOT be made in the classroom under any circumstance.
 Electronic devices used for music should ONLY be used during individual work time with the use of headphones or ear buds. Ear buds will NOT be shared.
-While students can listen to music, it should be school appropriate and not in video form such as YouTube.
 Students will NOT be allowed to use electronic devices during class instruction or testing.
 Social media is highly addictive and should NOT be used in class. Social media includes: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine, Pinterest, , Linked In, Tumblr and YouTube.
 Cameras on electronic devices will NOT be used unless approved by the instructor as part of a project.
 Students that have lost computer privileges or have not turned in a signed classroom use agreement cannot utilize electronic devices.

4.  Student use of personal electronic devices without teacher permission or other misuse or distraction is at the instructor’s discretion and will result in disciplinary action as follows:
o First offense: Warning
o Second offense: Device will be taken and held by instructor until the end of the day- at which time can be picked up by the student.
o Third offense: Device taken and student picks up device from Assistant Principal; student will not have device privileges for the rest of the semester
o Fourth offense: Device taken, and parent picks up device from Assistant Principal. If such a device is being used during a quiz or test, this is considered a violation of the Academic Honesty Policy and will result in a zero earned on that test or quiz and a referral to the Assistant Principal.

10. The odd-numbered statements represent a fixed mindset; even-numbered statements represent a growth mindset.
More “true” responses on even-numbered items demonstrate a growth mindset
More “true” responses on odd-numbered items demonstrate a fixed mindset
If the results are close, it’s likely that the mindset is closer to a fixed mindset

12. Mindset and success-15 mins.
Underneath the numbered activity we just did on your nameplate:
Make a list of at least three things you feel you are good at least three things you aren't; for each item, briefly explain why
Stand up, pair up, share!
Pick two items on your "not good" list and discuss what it would take for you to become better at each

13. English II staar test breakdown
In the toolbox section of your group binder, after the grouping sheet, there is a paper that tells you what will be on your English II STAAR test this year
Pay attention as I go through it
Everyone else should pay attention to the board and/or paper so that you can familiarize yourself with your EOC test
