Few elements on deforestation
2
Facts 1: Forests cover 30% of the earth’s land and 1/3 of forest coverage is to be considered as a minimal average in most developed Countries. Facts 2: Livestock has interest to take care of forests. Facts 3: Traditional drugs. There are more than 121 natural remedies in the rain forest which can be used as medicines and accessible to poor people. Facts 4: The over exploitation of forests is making it extremely difficult to replant a new ecology.
3
Facts 5: Deforestation has considerably been stopped in places like Europe, Pacific and North America. Facts 6: Poverty, over-population and unequal land access are the main causes of man- made deforestation. Facts 7: Green coverage supports/permits livestock activity. More than 1/3 of Somali working people is employed in animal breeding and trade. Facts 8: Fuel wood in sub Saharan African countries is consumed up to 200% times more than the annual growth rates of the trees. This is causing deforestation, lack of timber resources and loss of habitat for the species living in it.

Facts 9: Soil erosion, floods, wildlife extinction, increase in global warming, and climate imbalance are few of the effects of deforestation. Facts 11: Worldwide more than 1.6 billion people rely on forests products for all or part of their livelihoods. Facts 12: Deforestation affects water cycle. Trees cover form a first line of defense against soil loss and absorb groundwater and release the same into the atmosphere during transpiration. When deforestation happens, the climate automatically changes to a drier one and also affects the water table. Soil in most karst settings serves as an important primary filter for water pathogens.

Fact 13: Afforestation, as a long lasting and time consuming action, with visible result achievable only after years or decades, is probably the most difficult development activity, moreover in fragile state where lives may be easily lost and people fight to survive up to the day after. Fact 14: Deforestation may affect marine environment too: the mud may cover and choke the coral reefs, which represents the nursery of the ocean life. Fact 15: In Somalia, charcoal production for exporting is totally managed by Al Shabaab, ensuring incomes to the terroristic group for 370M$ per year. It should be reminded that the Federal Budget in 2017 has been of 340M$. Fact 16: Local Authorities must be strengthened in order to be able to enforce the law.
