ELA: We will begin reading a historical fiction novel titled, Trouble River, by Betsy Byars. This is a fun book and a great way to begin our discussions of our great country. The Martin family face great dangers out west as they homestead their land. Will Indians raid and burn their cabin, or will they be spared? How strong must Dewey and Grandma be? Stay tuned...

FRIDAY: Place Value Quiz

MATH: This week we will begin Unit 1 in math. Unit 1 will focus on place value, order of operations, and multiplying and dividing whole numbers. This week will be focusing on place value and order of operations. Students will have a place value quiz on Friday, August 10th. Students have study guides in their interactive notebook.
SCIENCE: We will begin with physical and chemical changes. Students will review the properties of each state of matter. We will explore what causes changes and will carry out investigations to see observable evidences of changes.
SS: Unit 1 will cover Turn of the Century America. We will explore: the Great Western Cattle Trails; technological advances and their inventors; and American immigration and its influences.
