Prognostic Relevance of Tumour Size in T3a Renal Cell Carcinoma: A Multicentre Experience  John S. Lam, Tobias Klatte, Jean-Jacques Patard, Rakhee H. 3 Fig. 2 Scatterplot of tumour size versus Martingale residuals for 623 patients with T3a RCC with fat invasion only. The Martingale residual is the difference between the observed and the expected numbers of events for a given patient and demonstrates the expected risk of death from RCC for the patient. Patients above the horizontal line were at increased risk for death from RCC, and those below were at decreased risk for death from RCC compared with the expected risk based on Cox regression analysis. The figure suggests that a tumour size cut-off of 7cm would be appropriate for these patients. 4 Fig. 3 Kaplan-Meier survival estimates for patients with T2, T3a≤7cm, T3a>7cm, and T3b RCC (Nall Mall). Survival of T2 tended to be better than for T3a≤7cm (p=0.055). Survival of T3a>7cm was similar to T3b (p=0.547). In the interest of clarity, the curves for T3c and T4 RCC are not shown. 5 Fig. 4 Kaplan-Meier survival estimates for patients with nonmetastatic T2, T3a≤7cm, T3a>7cm, and T3b RCC (N0M0). Survival of T2 was similar to T3a≤7cm (p=0.495) and survival of T3a>7cm was similar to T3b (p=0.918). In the interest of clarity, the curves for T3c and T4 RCC are not shown.
