1 This, That, These, Those Chapter 3

2 Today’s Class In today’s class we will continue to practice using this, that, these, and those. By the end of the class you should be able to ask and answer questions using this, that, these and those. You will be able to fill in a worksheet with the proper pronoun. You will practice the dialog in chapter 3 and be able to perform the dialog by memory. You will give a 1 minute speech about a topic of your choice.

3 Usage This and these are used to talk about and object or person near you. That and those are used to talk about objects or people far from you. The basic forms are This is a + noun. That is a + noun. These are + plural noun. Those are + plural noun. The question form is What us that? What is this? What are these? What are those?

5 Practice with Questions
Everyone, take something out of your bag or purse, then ask me about it using the correct question form. What is this? What are these? What is that? What are those?

7 Your Turn With a partner, practice the dialog on page 17.
If you have an item in the vocabulary, use it when you do the dialog. Practice 4 times. First time Man, Kelly; then the person who was Man do Kelly and the person who is Kelly do Man using three items. Then, the Third and Fourth time use three different items.

9 Review You now know how to use demonstrative pronouns (this, that, these, those) to talk about common, every day items. You have practiced asking and answering questions using the correct form. You have practiced the dialog in chapter 3. It is now time to move on to the 1 minute speeches.
