(A) Sustained increase in esophageal muscle thickness is not observed in a subject who had no chest pain after edrophonium injection. (B) In contrast, the ultrasound record of a subject whose chest pain was reproduced 72 seconds after injection of edrophonium shows a sustained increase in esophageal muscle thickness preceding the onset of pain.
