How to write a DIARY Chronological Order Chatty Style First Person
Remember to sequence the events using fronted adverbials Chatty Style A diary is impersonal and friendly in tone First Person You are writing the diary from your perspective or in role, so use personal pronouns e.g. I/we WHO? Past Tense Diaries mostly focus on what has already happened WHAT? How to write a DIARY WHY? WHEN? Description Use vibrant language and lots of adjectives to help the reader build an image; simile and metaphors work well Style Include a date and perhaps start with… ‘Dear Diary,…’ Key Events Focus on significant experiences Emotions Use evocative language A Century’s Memories
