6. General Laptop Information
Teachers have administrative rights
Teachers can load approved and licensed software applications
Software Approval Process (SAP):

7. General Care Store in appropriate location Avoid touching the screen
Avoid heat/cold
Keep the laptop in a secure location
Avoid touching the screen
Avoid completely draining the battery – if the battery is completely drained on the Windows side you will get a black error screen when you power up - select “start windows normally”
Wipe screen and keys with a soft anti-static cloth
No magnets near laptop
Note: please do not use the Magic Eraser because it can mar the finish on the laptop.
Appropriate locations - be sure to point out that it should not stay in a car overnight or prolong exposure to heat or cold
All laptops have spill sensors

8. Backing Up Files
In the event of malfunction, laptops will be re-imaged
You are responsible for backing up instructional files on a regular basis

9. Wireless Protocol
All new laptops are equipped with wireless cards, however your primary method of accessing the network is through Ethernet
Wireless networks must be approved by the Technology Officer
Wireless access is available through approved wireless networks within your building, or home wireless networks
IT IS BEST TO TURN OFF THE WIRELESS WHEN YOU ARE PLUGGED IN WITH AN ETHERNET CORD

All staff and student accounts will use their Network Account
The Network Account has been referred to as your remote ASPEN at home login
High schools and administrators are currently using the Network Account
This is the first step in a move toward a single sign-on.

HCPSS is moving toward an Active Directory system meaning that one username and password can log the user into many different systems.

27. Change Password – Preferred Method (Mac)
You can change your password by going to the system preferences - Accounts
After changing your pw:
Logout and login with new password while connected to the network (Ethernet cable plugged into the wall jack) so you can login from home
If you have Windows installed:
Username and password are the same for each OS
You need to logout and login with new password while connected to the network
Note: Your login Remote/Home Aspen password is the same as your Mac and Windows login password.
Changing the password for one will change it for all of these. Aspen from school is separate from this.

29. Home Directory Folder
Desktop items and items in the Home Directory are only available on the local machine.
In order to access files from other computers when logged on to the network, those files must be dragged to a Network folder (Network Home, Campus, Hand In/Out).

30. Network Home Folder
All teachers have a folder on the server called “network home” and is represented by their login name.
This server has 5GB of space and can only be accessed at school.
All students have a folder on the server called “network home” and is represented by their login name.
This server has 1GB of space and can only be accessed at school.

The CAMPUS folder is shared server space that can be accessed by any teacher on the instructional network.

32. Hand-In /Hand-Out Folders
Hand In folder can be viewed by icon by everyone – but only the individual students can open up the document and edit. If documents must be completed within a deadline – teachers should drag files out of the hand in folder and put into another folder on their machine.
Hand in and Hand out does not count against your server quota.
Hand out folder is completely open – Any teacher can create folders – strong recommendation to keep consistency for folder names.
Process of transfer of old server data will happen on Day 1 and Day 2

34. Manually Accessing the Server Folders
Itinerant teachers still need to mount the server manually when they are not at their home school.
The server address will be different at each school site.
Go > Connect to Server > Add specific school server address.
This address can be communicated from server admin. The address is also listed in the sidebar/shared area when connected to the server. Itinerant teachers would want to write down the server addresses they will need.

QUESTION- will the mobile labs be “locked down” or be able to be accessed by other laptops?
Office 2008 now has a clean Standard Toolbar that not only please the eye, but also reduces clutter; these improvements make it much easier to use. Toolbars still exist within Office 2008, but they are task-specific and are only available when they are needed. When the task has been completed, they are put away to help maintain a clean workspace.
