Moles are a Chemist best friend.
Moley, Moley, Moley Moles are a Chemist best friend.
2
What is a Mole? A mole is not a critter that burrow’s under the ground. A mole is not a little man that lives under a bridge – that’s a troll A mole is a group of objects – like a dozen is 12 or a gross is 144
3
Why do we use the word mole?
The word mole come form the Latin word moles which means a pile of things. In the case of a mole we mean 6.02 X 1023 objects, molecules, formula units or atoms. 1 dozen = 12 1 pair = 2 1 mole = 6.02 X 1023
4
Why 6.02 X 1023? The number is based on the C-12 isotope.
12 g of the C-12 isotope has exactly 6.02 X 1023 atoms. The atomic mass is therefore a molar mass So grams of Sulfur has exactly 6.02 X 1023 atoms of sulfur.
5
Atomic Mass and the Mole
One mole of any element has exactly 6.02 X 1023 atoms of that element. You couldn’t possible count that number it is too large.
