2 Partner History (1) Do you have a partner at present?
(Is it a sexual relationship?) (Is your partner a male or female?) How long have you been together? Have you had any other partners in that time? Has he/she? Has money ever been so tight you had to sell sex? Future risk For non-consentual sex we’ll have to sensitively signpost to dr I think. For paid sex, mainly informs risk assessment. However all these questions will hold 'can of worms' fears for some participants Need a good way of reassuring and containing. I always emphasise - if they chose to disclose to you, that's fantastic, you clearly doing a good job - BUT no one will expect you to have instant answers. If they don't want to be ref to someone else ultra quick - you can say you will seek advice and then review them - build towards a point for referral on... Notes from Phil Always think it is interesting the difference between someone having loads of 'partners' unpaid - and someone paid. The exchange of money is then more indicative of other additional risks on top of STI risk - vulnerabilities / psychosocial issues / risk of being victim of violence, possible substance misuse. But all that sex unpaid...maybe even MORE vulnerable! and here alcohol in particular may be an issue / self esteem etc SO - I never felt that finding out if money changed hands made a difference re STI risk assessment: more other aspects - but practitioners should slow down and take care to listen in either of these scenarios. Important first step is that someone can begin to indicate that they have having sex with lots of different people. © Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare

3 Partner History (2) To assess blood borne virus risk:
Do you have a partner at present? (Is it a sexual relationship?) (Is your partner a male or female?) How long have you been together? Have you had any other partners in that time? Has he/she? To assess blood borne virus risk: Have you ever had sex with a man? [To men, if not already clear] Have you ever had sex with someone from another country? Which country? Have you ever injected drugs or shared drug-taking equipment? © Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare

4 Partner History (3) Extra questions to consider:
Do you have a partner at present? (Is it a sexual relationship?) (Is your partner a male or female?) How long have you been together? Have you had any other partners in that time? Has he/she? To assess blood borne virus risk: Have you ever had sex with a man? [To men, if not already clear] Have you ever had sex with someone from another country? Which country? Have you ever injected drugs or shared drug-taking equipment? Extra questions to consider: Have you ever had sex you didn’t want/agree to? Have you been so drunk you had sex when you hadn't intended? Have you ever paid for or been paid for sex?

Are there times when you haven’t managed to use condoms? Most couples don’t manage to use condoms 100% of the time – do you? Do you have any questions about condom use? Ask about sexual practices? – especially if MSM ever: Have you ever had anal sex?’ Important for a) risk assessment b) for health promotion i.e. lubricant © Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare
