Objective: To be able to plan an accurate investigation
Which acid is strongest? Objective: To be able to plan an accurate investigation 6* To evaluate quantitative and qualitative data 5 To describe how you can tell how strong an acid is. 4 To identify that different acids behave differently Quantitative and Qualitative
2
Signs of a chemical reaction?
How can you tell if a chemical reaction is taking place?!
3
How can you tell which acid is strongest?
What might you look for?
4
You are going to be given two acids,
Some marble chips and some magnesium. You also have test tubes and thermometers. What are you going to do? What is your independent variable? What is your dependent variable? Control Variables? What are your variables? (see red box) How will you know which acid you use is the strongest?
5
Collect 2 test tubes and fill with 20ml acid A.
Method Collect 2 test tubes and fill with 20ml acid A. Add a marble chip to one and add magnesium to the other Record the highest temperature reached on each. Also describe the reaction, what happens in words? Do this again, but with acids B and C Record all results in the table given.
8
Qualitative Vs. Quantitative Data
What is the difference? Qualitative Data – Quantitative Data -
9
Why do scientists like quantitative?
