Objectives Revise Act 3 before moving on to Act 4 Make sure everyone is following the story. Mark quotes (needed for 60% of any answer you give in PQE) All of this should be on a sheet which can be used for revision purposes later so don’t write on the sheet. Warm-up: Raise your hand and share a thought about Act 3 of Macbeth. What do you think about it?

Why might Macbeth want to kill Banquo? (S1) What does Macbeth say to convince the assassins to murder Banquo? (S1) How does Lady Macbeth feel now she is Queen of Scotland? (S2) How is Lady Macbeth’s role different in the plan to kill Banquo, compared to the plan to kill Duncan? (S2) Who escapes the murderers? How is this connected to the witches prophecies? Raise hands to share and discuss quotes; where they are and what you think they mean. Soliloquy. Act 3 starts with a soliloquy from Banquo. In what ways does this speech show that he is a threat to Macbeth? (S1) Peace of mind. Find two quotations to show Macbeth and Lady Macbeth regret the choices they have made. (S2) Ghosts. Only Macbeth can see the ghost of Banquo. Examine what he says to the ghost and explain why he might be seeing him. (S4) Honour. Scene six shows how Macbeth is viewed by the other Thanes or Lords of Scotland. Describe these views. (S6)
