Overall agency update Overall satellite planning
GPM (JAXA-NASA joint): Operational. DPR & GMI products were updated to V04 in Mar ALOS-2: Operational. GCOM-W: Operational. GOSAT: Operational. TRMM (JAXA-NASA joint): Ended operation in Apr AMSR-E (on NASA Aqua): Ended operation in Dec Plan to produce AMSR-E/AMSR2 consistent products GCOM-C: To be launched in JFY2016 GOSAT-2: To be launched in early 2018 Other major events affecting the agency or its participation in GSICS Discussion of GCOM-W follow-on is ongoing. A sentence was newly added to the Japanese Basic Plan on Space Policy revised edition (Dec. 2015) – “Accelerate a study on how future GCOM-W mission should be, including follow-on mission, from JFY2016.” JAXA exchanged agreement with JMA to produce & distribute Himawari-8 products to share synergy between Himawari-8 & JAXA EO satellites. GSICS works of GOSAT 1. For hyperspectral IR satellite comparison,
GOSAT TANSO-FTS ILS information is available from the GOSAT user web site: cm-1 2. GOSAT lunar calibration data will be processed by GILO for preparation of GOSAT-2 in this year.

Highlights of other JAXA’s calibration activities of interest to the EP
GOSAT-2 GOSAT-2 calibration plan is under preparation based on that of GOSAT. TRMM/PR & GPM-Core/DPR intercalibration PR and DPR calibration methods are almost same using Active Radar Calibrator. JAXA is currently working on conducting absolute calibration for PR/DPR while maintaining the continuity of σ0 of both. A slight offset bias seemed to exsit in the results of DPR external calibration. New DPR V04 relased in Mar satisfied the continuity of σ0, but bias correction was not applied.
