Porterville, California is suffering from the worst drought the state has ever seen
no running water for over 6 months
no tap water
can’t flush a toilet
can’t wash dishes
can’t do laundry
can’t wash hands
need bottled water for everything

7. What are we going to be doing for the next four weeks?
We are going to be the civil engineerings for the town of Porterville. We will help them to them solve a few of the problems that their town faces due to the drought.

8. The Options for Projects
Construct a well to help the citizens of the town access their water.
We need to get some of the town’s water to the farms so that they can continue to grow food. Develop a system to transport the water.
Porterville’s only bridge to the next town has recently become unusable. Design a bridge that will:
allow tall boats to pass under it
hold up many cars during rush hour

Two minutes to brainstorm individually on your problem.
Then, work with your group to plan and sketch a detailed solution and make a possible materials list for when we start building next week.
