LESSON TITLE: Crisis Management & Contingency Planning COMPETENCY FOCUS: Research (I1): you will develop your skills in research as throughout this topic, you will need to research the role of human resource in HRM, the different job roles that exist within an organisation and also the recruitment & selection documentation that the organisation uses to help recruit the right people for their vacant job roles. 2 Contingency Planning Also known as ‘business continuity planning’ or ‘disaster recovery planning’ Preparing the immediate steps to be taken in the event of a crisis or emergency Crises such as fire, floods, illness of key staff, damage to stock, IT system failure Effective contingency planning allows a business to take steps to minimise the potential impact of a disaster.

3 Contingency Planning Key Steps in Contingency Planning:
Identify potential disasters Assess the likelihood of these occurring Minimise the potential impact of the crisis Effective planning can help remove risk altogether Plan for continued operations. TASK: What are the benefits and drawbacks of contingency planning?
