Pharmacy Integration to Improve Care for Patients
Transformation involves shifting pharmacy practice from dispensing towards clinical activity Quality Payments Scheme – April 2017 Pharmacy Integration Fund of £42m to support change Better technology via NHS Digital 2,000+ new pharmacist roles in NHS primary care Pharmacy included in NHS workforce plan by HEE Free pharmacists to work more clinically The direction of travel is about enabling community pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to become more integrated into primary and urgent care to improve the quality of care for patients. This would involve: Working in new roles in a wider range of settings (GP surgeries, care homes, urgent care centers), supported by better technology Helping to improve the quality of care for patients as part of long-term condition care pathways Making greater use of community pharmacists’ clinical skills and the skills of pharmacy technicians The early drivers for pharmacy integration: NHS Five Year Forward View guiding principles: #1: Improving care and quality #2: Improving health and well being #3: Closing the finance and efficiency gap
