Subjects & predicates

Complete Subject – Includes all of the words in the subject of a sentence.
Complete Predicate – Includes all of the words in the predicate of a sentence. Simple Subject – Is the main or most important word or group of words in the complete subject. Simple Predicate – Is the main word or group of words in the complete predicate. Verb – A word that expresses an action or state of being. The simple predicate is always a verb.

Points to Remember Sometimes the simple subject is also the complete subject (if there is only one word). Sometimes the simple predicate may also be the complete predicate (if there is only one word).

Examples: The party for Victor is tomorrow. The soundtrack of that movie features a song by Celine Dion. The science teacher gave us an interesting assignment. At the Japanese restaurant, both of us ordered tempura. The huge mirror in the hall is a valuable antique.
