2 Vocabulary Unit 5 1. Apologist (n) – a person who defends a person, idea, or position The apologist for the striking baseball players argued that they were only asking for their fair share of the wealth they helped to bring in. 2. Dissuade (v) – to discourage from doing something through persuasion The mother tried to dissuade her toddler from screaming in public. 3. Dupe (n) – A person who is tricked and taken advantage of Because he was too trusting, Mel became the dupe of the bullies at school. 4. Fallacy (n) – a false belief; false reasoning It is a fallacy to think the best team will always win.
