1 2d2 Group 6’s Perfect parachute
Thomas ( Leader ) Hans, Mariz, Bruce and Satara

2 The objective of our 1st experiment
long strings better? Or short strings?

3 1st experiment VARIABLE TO BE CHANGED: Variables to be kept constant:
Length of strings (1st parachute 25cm, 2nd parachute 35cm) Variables to be kept constant: The weight of the object The height of dropping the parachute The materials The surface of the parachute

4 WHAT TO COMPARE?

5 The process of our experiment

6 Procedure Use the same materials to make the two parachutes
One parachute’s string is 25 cm and the other one is 35 cm Find the object that you will use as weight for the parachute Attach one string to the one corner of the parachute. (Do the same thing as well for the other parachute) Tie the strings of the parachute and attach the load. (Do the same thing as well for the other parachute) Do the experiment three times for each parachute and record the duration of the time of the parachute falling until it lands

7 Parachute with 25 cm strings
result Parachute with 25 cm strings Parachute with35 cm strings 1. 21.02 seconds 29.95 seconds 2. 16.48 seconds 24.4 seconds 3. 19.64 seconds 31.31 seconds Average About 19 seconds About 28.6 seconds CONCLUSION: The longer the string is, the slower the parachute it is going to land. The shorter the string is, the faster the parachute it is going to land. So based on our own opinion we could have a more convenient landing if we use a parachute with longer length of strings.

8 Discussion When we were doing the experiment, sometimes when we drop the parachute it would voluntarily approach the air conditioner So what we did to improve our experiment, we waited until the weather goes calm

9 Our reflection We found out that in the subject of Science that we really needed to do several experiments to make sure that we are getting the right results We learned that we need to be absolutely serious when we are doing the experiments, because if we’re not serious about it we can make mistakes which would have us restart from the beginning and eventually wasting our time We learned that we really need to keep constant what is suppose to be constant. Because one difference would make a big error to the experiment

10 The objective of our 2nd experiment
Use two different materials to make parachutes

11 2nd experiment VARIABLE TO BE CHANGED: The Materials
1st parachute : Plastic , 2nd parachute: Paper Variables to be kept constant: The weight of the object The height of dropping the parachute The size of the surface The shape of the parachute The length of the strings

12 What to compare??

13 The process of our experiment

14 Procedure Use different materials to make two parachutes
The surface and the strings are the same The load that we provided, which is a pen cover, is the same as well Attach the string 5 cm distant from the very corner of the parachute Tie the strings of one parachute altogether. We did the same for the other one Attached the load for each parachute Do the experiment three times We recorded the landing time of the parachute from dropping point to the ground

15 results Plastic Parachute Paper Parachute 1. 3.9 seconds 2.54 seconds
Average About 4.02 seconds About 2.56 seconds Conclusion From this experiment , we found out that “Plastic Parachute” is better than “A4 Paper Parachute”. “Plastic Parachute” lands safety and perfectly and “A4 Paper Parachute” doesn’t land safe. So “Plastic Parachute” is better.

16 Discussion We need the paper to be straight , or else if there’s a folded line there is a high chance that there might be an error The person who drops the parachute on the first try has to carry on his duty until the experiment is accomplished

17 Our reflection This experiment is easier compared to the 1st experiment We need to take every step seriously when it comes to accomplishing the task at hand Executing the paper parachute is more complicated than we thought of The plastic parachute is more convenient when it comes to dropping compared to the paper parachute We need to be more witty when it comes to overcoming some certain obstacles when executing the experiment

18 End. Thank you!! 
