1 SELL ETA Special Good Through April

2 THE ABCs OF POWER CONDITIONING
A Simplified Approach to Understanding Power Quality Problems and How to Solve Them.

3 What is the origin of power quality problems?

4 Usually they have an earthly source
Hildegard, switch off the mixer, my monitor is flickering!

5 And I don‘t mean this one . . . .

6 Where Do Power Quality Problems Start?
Disturbances are generated external to a facility. Disturbances are generated internal to a facility.

7 How Do They Enter a System?
Normal Mode Phase (hot) to Neutral Should be <10 volts Common Mode Neutral to Ground Should be < ½ volt

8 What Devices Are Used To Solve Power Problems
What Devices Are Used To Solve Power Problems. Which Device Is The Appropriate One To Use?

9 SIMPLE AS A-B-C

10 AC – The Surge Diverter/Filter
GEAR Example of surge diverter/noise filter function. Diverters and filters convert normal mode to common mode.

11 B – Isolation Transformer
H N G H N/G Isolation transformers eliminated common mode voltage. Transformers provide a code legal way of bonding neutral to ground.

12 Balanced Power Transformer
H N G H G N 60 volts 60 volts Balanced power transformers have their ground separated from phase and neutral by 60 volts. Neutral and ground cannot be bonded and common mode voltage is not eliminated. Balanced power transformers are primarily designed to eliminate 60 Hz. hum. They are not intended for microprocessor based electronics.

13 ABC – ETA Power Conditioner
H N/G H N G When used with a true isolation transformer with a neutral to ground bond, surge diverters and noise filters can do their job without creating a common mode disturbance. The number of surge diversion and filter elements is also greatly reduced.

14 An Example of Power Line Noise
Normal Mode Noise - ~ 1.5 volts Common Mode Noise - ~ 2 volts
