1 CLASSROOM PROCEDURES and EXPECTATIONS
This template can be used as a starter file to give updates for project milestones. Sections Right-click on a slide to add sections. Sections can help to organize your slides or facilitate collaboration between multiple authors. Notes Use the Notes section for delivery notes or to provide additional details for the audience. View these notes in Presentation View during your presentation. Keep in mind the font size (important for accessibility, visibility, videotaping, and online production) Coordinated colors Pay particular attention to the graphs, charts, and text boxes. Consider that attendees will print in black and white or grayscale. Run a test print to make sure your colors work when printed in pure black and white and grayscale. Graphics, tables, and graphs Keep it simple: If possible, use consistent, non-distracting styles and colors. Label all graphs and tables.

2 WELCOME We are going to have a wonderful year together.
Have positive expectations. The procedures we learn today will create an efficient and safe classroom.

3 Classroom Procedures Why do we need classroom procedures?
What are the procedures? What are we going to do in Biology? What is the project about? Define the goal of this project Is it similar to projects in the past or is it a new effort? Define the scope of this project Is it an independent project or is it related to other projects? * Note that this slide is not necessary for weekly status meetings

4 Classroom Procedures Why do we need classroom procedures?
We are going to be doing a lot of hands on labs in this class. Procedures keep the classroom safe. Procedures communicate expectations. What are we going do in this class? We are going to be doing a lot of hands on activities such as labs, making models, drawing, etc. We are going to keep a notebook. * If any of these issues caused a schedule delay or need to be discussed further, include details in next slide.

5 Procedures What are the classroom procedures? Follow instructions.
Stay in our seat or at your own lab. Be safe. Be kind. Talking is encouraged at manageable volumes. Be prepared. Be here. All the school procedures are enforced in this class. Read the handbook. Duplicate this slide as necessary if there is more than one issue. This and related slides can be moved to the appendix or hidden if necessary.

6 Scenarios What should you do if you need to sharpen your pencil?
What should you do if you don’t finish an assignment in class? What should you do if you finish an assignment early? What should you do if you are tardy? What should you do if you do not understand the directions for an assignment?

7 Arrival to class When the bell rings
Take out your notebook and materials needed for class. Place your personal items in a cubby. Be seated and begin working on the bell work. When the bell rings Everyone should be in their seat during this time. Everyone should be working on the bell work.

8 General Classroom Expectations
Respect others personal space. Keep your hands and feet to yourself. Be respectful of everyone and everything. Allow others to finish speaking before you start speaking.

9 Expectations During Instruction
Please give teacher your full attention. Please wait to be recognized by the teacher before you begin speaking. Please wait until teacher gives permission before you begin a lab or any project other than the bell work.

10 Expectations during lab work
You must stay at your lab station unless you have permission to leave. You must contribute to your lab to receive credit. Always get permission to begin the lab. Follow instructions. If you are unsure ask for help. UNSAFE LAB PROCEDURES RESULT IN: Sitting out the lab Leaving your lab station without permission or any behavior that is not safe will result in a sitting out the lab.

11 Expectations during team work
You will be assigned a team. Within your team you will be assigned a role. For example: reporter, facilitator, time keeper, or materials manager. Teams should be focused on the task. Each team member will contribute to receive credit.

12 Prompts If I raise my hand, you are to stop talking, face me, and raise your hand until everyone in the classroom has stopped talking and I lower my hand. THANK YOU 

13 End of Class I will remind you when the bell is about to ring.
You should begin clean up. You may return to your assigned seat quietly when you have permission. All lab work is due before class dismissal.

16 My promise to you We will have a great year together.
Procedures and expectations will enhance your learning experiences. I will give you my best everyday and ask you to do the same.

19 What is a notebook?

20 Flow of matter and energy Heredity
A notebook is what we will make to illustrate our understanding of Biology. Cells Flow of matter and energy Heredity Biodiversity and change Everyone has a special quality. Find it in you and go for it as soon as possible. ~Anonymous

21 Electricity and magnetism and Nuclear Science
A portfolio is a 3 ring binder we will make to illustrate our understanding of Physical World Concepts. Mechanics Thermodynamics Waves and Optics Electricity and magnetism and Nuclear Science Everyone has a special quality. Find it in you and go for it as soon as possible. ~Anonymous

22 Looking Ahead Why a notebook? What goes into the notebook?
Will the notebook be graded? How will I keep up with my notebook? Who will see my notebook?

23 Notebook is a resource lab sheets notes diagrams notebook
keeps us organized lab sheets diagrams notes study guide What are the dependencies that affect the timeline, cost, and output of this project?

24 This is going to be a great year!
Prepare slides for the appendix in the event that more details or supplemental slides are needed. The appendix is also useful if the presentation is distributed later.

25 Text reminders about assignments, quizzes and tests
