MX250 Power on and off, Console Mode
2
January 2004 Page 2 Power Supply MX250 has ac and dc inputs –ac 100 to 240 V, 5A, 50 to 60 Hz –dc –48 V, 6A –worldwide safety and compliance approvals If ac portion of power supply fails –dc portion continues to operate –use the BPS12 for 6 hours of backup
3
January 2004 Page 3 Power On Automatically powers up –when ac or dc is plugged in –reset button does not need to be pressed If ac or dc is already connected –press reset button to turn power on
4
January 2004 Page 4 Boot Sequence Internal processors load software from hard disc Indicate the boot status using the LEDs –details in MX250 hardware manual Less than one minute to become operational
5
January 2004 Page 5 Startup Log Created every time the MX250 boots up –accessed through MX250 web server –point browser at external IP address of MX250
6
January 2004 Page 6 Startup Log Example Details boot sequence Can tell if system powered up successfully –or if there are any problems booting up
7
January 2004 Page 7 Console Mode Activated by pressing the console button Can be activated –during startup phase –during normal operation Provides access to special functions –not available in normal mode –through connection on port 2
8
January 2004 Page 8 Console Mode How to Activate at Power Up Press and hold the console button Power up the MX250 Do not release console button until –Status LED flashes green, red, orange, and off* this could take up to 1 minute Reboot required to exit console mode *In version 1.2 of software, Status LED flashes green and off
9
January 2004 Page 9 Console Mode Activated at Power Up Assigns fixed IP address 192.168.1.100 to MX250 Runs a DHCP server, leases one IP address –192.168.1.101 –directly connect your laptop to console port Allows you to: –change external IP address of the MX250 –reset master password –perform emergency recovery
10
January 2004 Page 10 Console Mode How to Activate During Operation Press and hold the console button Do not release console button until –status LED flashes green, red, orange, and off this takes 2 seconds No reboot required to exit console mode –press and hold console button for 2 seconds –Status LED returns to previous condition
11
January 2004 Page 11 Console Mode Activated During Operation DOES NOT assign fixed IP address 192.168.1.100 to MX250 DOES NOT run a new DHCP server Allows you to: –change external IP address of the MX250 –reset master password –perform emergency recovery
12
January 2004 Page 12 Console Mode Imitation If External IP Address is 192.168.1.100 –MX250 acts as if it is in console mode
13
January 2004 Page 13 Automatic Shutdown Allows you to safely shutdown system –press and hold reset button for one second –Status LED flashes orange System applications are properly shutdown –safely shuts down the database –terminates all active processes –turns off the power
14
January 2004 Page 14 Forced Shutdown Allows you to shutdown the MX250 –when it cannot shut down on its own –same feature on PCs with ATX power supplies Initiate during normal operation by holding down reset button for 10 seconds May cause database corruption
15
January 2004 Page 15 Immediate Shutdown Initiated from Admin UI –Maintenance | Shutdown MX All active calls are terminated immediately Terminates all processes gracefully
16
January 2004 Page 16 Graceful Stop Allows current calls to be completed before shutting down the system No further calls can be set up
17
January 2004 Page 17 Safe Shutdown When 48 Vdc input drops When ac fails –MX250 should be connected to a BPS12 MX250 monitors –48 Vdc level When voltage level drops to a certain level –MX250 initiates safe shutdown
18
January 2004 Page 18 Syslog Reporting of Events Events sent to a Syslog server Indicate status changes –power on and off –console mode activation and deactivation
19
January 2004 Page 19 Summary MX250 can be powered on and off –by hardware or software Detailed logs –startup –Syslog Console access to MX250 –used for initial configuration –when you forget the master password –when you forget the external IP address
