Why Standards? Product reliability Product usability Ensures product lifecycle (based on 3 year average) Lifecycle support. Takes the guess work out of What to buy Makes it easy to collaborate and consolidate among vendors. Establishes a common base-line for everyone purchasing computors.

Who Develops the Standards ITS Technical Support ITS Systems Engineering Local Support Providers University Software Licensing/Standards Vendors Technical Community at Large User Input/Requests

Recommended Desktop Standards Intel Pentium 4, 2.2 GHz 512 MB RAM 40 GB Hard Drive 15 Flat Panel Monitor Small Form Factor Floppy to be replaced by USB based memory modules or Pen drives.

Recommended Laptop Standards Pentium M (Centrino) 1.3 Ghz Processor 512 MB RAM 20 GB Hard Drive Integrated Network Interface Cards (NIC) with 10/100 Mb ethernet and wireless compatibility (802.11b standard) Again, preference is for USB memory module instead of floppy drive.

Server Standards Dell PowerEdge 1650, 2650 & 6650 series are the standard. ITS works with LSPs to help determine actual hardware specifications based on services or application requirements.
