Figure 2 From 12.29

2 Find other information (figures, map, graph, sentences) that help to explain why the Thames Water region suffers from water stress and shortage. Stick post it notes on them comment ‘evidence for water stress’ NOTE: It is home to 1/5th of the UKs population!

3 It might look like this... 1) Calculate the size of the proposed reservoir. How will you do this? 2) Measure the length of the reserve route for Wilts and Berks Canal restoration. (What is this do you think?) 3) How far away is the reservoir from the neighbouring villages. Which ones will be most affected? 4) How high is the embankment? (look in text above this map) What impact will that have on the surrounding area? Why does it need an embankment?

4 Water voles are found in the canal!
They are cute! BUT... The canal will have to be moved! That is why there is an alternative/reserve route!

5 1) What does this map show? (It is a river basin)
Write the answers around the map! Highlight what you would use to answer the questions below. The river is prone to flooding. Why is this? 1) What does this map show? (It is a river basin) 2) Describe the location of the proposed reservoir. Use direction and location within the drainage basin. 3) Describe the location of Oxford. What is that bit of a river called? 4) Label the map with these river features and add any we have not considered.

6 Highlights facts and figs!
Outline other strategies that the population of the Thames valley could do to reduce the pressure of an increase in demand. Annotate these by adding how they will reduce demand

7 1) Label key features 2) Check your measurements 3) What will be lost? Label/highlight 4) Give the 4 figure grid references of the 6 main villages 5) Give the 6 figure GR of Drayton Copse (what is a copse?) 6) There are nature reserves nearby! That you can refer to in your decision. Look in 47,96 and to the north there are lot of wetland areas such as Childrey Brook 42,94 It looks like a bird!
